Our Story

When CRE broker & investor Dakotah Smith began adding passive investments to his real estate portfolio as a Limited Partner of various syndications, he quickly set out to tell his friends and family, encouraging them to look into this form of passive investing. Educating his network on the different kinds of deal types, with various assets, syndicators, deal structures, and strategies quickly gathered steam, as did Dakotah’s network of operators and developers across the country, and OSmith Capital was born.

An initial focus on partnering with 3rd party operators has turned to in-house expertise. OSmith Capital is currently building and managing its own portfolio of regional assets, with sights on bringing other investors in for projects again int he near future.

Dakotah is a commercial real estate broker and investor, based in Omaha, NE. In partnerships with fellow investors, he has helped grow a portfolio of 530+ multifamily units worth over $35 million over the past five years. 

His investment experience includes joint venture and direct ownership of assets that have been taken full-cycle, as well as syndications both as a Limited Partner and General Partner. He has masterminded and worked directly with numerous real estate operators across the country, providing OSmith Capital investors with invaluable access and insights into private real estate offerings. 

Dakotah is an Associate Broker with Lee & Associates, specializing in investment sales of multifamily, retail & industrial properties. He also has experience in the leasing of retail and industrial spaces, giving him greater insight to the valuation and operational considerations of properties across many asset classes. He serves on his regional Planning Commission (zoning board) and as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Nebraska Omaha, lecturing on Real Estate Brokerage & Real Estate Law.

  • Prior to Lee & Associates, Dakotah served in various leadership / executive positions in real estate sales and Prop-tech. He held the position of CEO of a multi-office Keller Williams franchise and as Redfin Corp’s Designated State Broker for three states across the Midwest. He served on local Realtor & MLS boards and won national recognitions for both his own sales and for his leadership of multi-state sales teams.

    Before his career in real estate, Dakotah worked in Washington, DC on both federal and state policy campaigns related to building construction, energy efficiency, real estate financing, and homeland security. His best job, however, was working as a ranch hand on a million-acre cattle station in the Australian outback.

    Dakotah serves as a volunteer firefighter/EMT and has served fire departments in Nebraska, Maryland & Texas since 2003. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and furthered his education with a masters degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.

    He is the proud father of two children with his wife, Mary.
